June 1011
Annual General Meeting of the British Dental Bleaching Society took place on 17 June 11 at the Islington's Business Design Centre.
Members of the British Dental Bleaching Society (BDBS) were given a glimmer of hope that the current confusion surrounding the question of bleaching may be nearing an end thanks to government moves to push the issue forward at European Parliament level.
Following the Society’s AGM, there was an open forum at which the government’s Chief Dental Officer, Barry Cockcroft told the meeting that, on behalf of the Department of Health, he had met with colleagues from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) under whose auspices the Cosmetic Directive falls, and the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Authority (MHRA) and have begun the internal procedures necessary to get a proposal on the issue of dental bleaching from the European Commission to go before the European Parliament within a matter of weeks. Once the proposal is published, BIS can make it available to local authority Trading Standards Offices in an attempt to create consistent guidelines.
